Paringa View Park – The Mieglich Family

Overlooking the stunning Onkaparinga Valley, with the cyclists cruising past on the Amy Gillet Bikeway. Paringa View Park is a picturesque farm.

Shane Mieglich and his wife Kylee can trace their family’s dairy heritage back seven generations – Shane’s ancestors were farmers in Europe in the 19th century. They first settled in the Adelaide Hills in 1946, and have been dairy farming ever since.

You will find just one breed of cow at the Mieglich’s Charleston farm – Holstein. The farm has been breeding Holstein stock so long and so successfully, that their herd are now registered as stud animals. The dairy typically milks between 140 and 160 cows.

“To walk into a supermarket and see Udder Delights cheese, we actually feel part of it.”

Paringa View Park has been supplying Udder Delights for 7 years. Shane and Kylee are very loyal to Udder Delights, and value the relationships that has been built over the years.

“To walk into a supermarket and see Udder Delights cheese, we actually feel part of it” says Shane. “It’s more of a family relationship. We feel like we know everyone at Udder Delights” says Kylee.

Running a dairy farm can be challenging, but it’s the animals that drives Kylee’s passion – “I really love my cows!” According to Shane, “for me, it’s the attachment to land”. When asked about farming in the Adelaide Hills, Shane reflects “I’m born and bred here. It’s a beautiful place to live. We’re lucky to be where we are”.

Shane is consistently looking to improve the farm’s sustainability, with solar panels and energy-efficient equipment installed in recent years and are looking forward to continuing to produce high-quality Adelaide Hills milk for Udder Delights for many years to come.
