Udder Delights... yesterday's cheese for today's people. The Udder Delights Cheese Cellar is the host and starting point of the Adelaide Hills Cheese and Wine Trail. The Trail is a four course progressive picnic that includes our locally produced artisan cheese and an Adelaide Hills bottle of wine to the value of $25 (you collect the wine from one of the wineries you visit). Each course is held at a different cellar door in the Adelaide Hills, and is matched specifically to the wine offered for tasting.
As you visit the wineries on the trail you take your cheeses into the cellar door, consuming them with the appropriate wine, or any others that may take your fancy. So by the end of your trail you would have visited at least four wineries, sampling at least four of our cheeses that have been pre-matched to four specific wines.
The Cheese and Wine Trail is self drive – so you will need your own car unless you organize a chauffer. You have two price point options, as well as two different trail routes to pick from.
There is a STANDARD Cheese & Wine Trail – which costs $55 per couple; and there is a SILVER Cheese & Wine Trail – which costs $85 per couple. Both the standard and silver trails have the same cheese and wine; however the standard trail resembles a morning or afternoon tea in relation to the quantity of food. The silver trail is a generous four course lunch where you get to sample an array of high quality regional produce – including pate, salmon, olives, fruit pastes, dips, sun dried tomatoes… and the list goes on.
You also have two routes to pick from. Trail One is a shorter drive that that will take you no further than 15 minutes away from Hahndorf – you will visit Abbey Rock, Bird in Hand, Nepenthe & Howards Vineyard. Trail Two is the longer drive that will take you 30 minutes away from Hahndorf – you will visit Abbey Rock, Nepenthe, Howards Vineyard & Longview Vineyard. You do not need to decide which route you want to take until you actually get in your car and read your map!
Udder Delights Cheese Cellar requires a $50 deposit on all hampers that go out. We can generally fit up to 3 couples’ worth of food in a hamper – depending on the trail option. The hamper includes knives, cutting board and ice and needs to be returned within a few days, if not on the same day as the trail.
You will receive one free bottle of wine as part of your trail – as well as receiving a point on your Cheese and Wine Trail card for every other bottle you purchase. Once you have earned 6 points (in other words – purchased 6 bottles) you receive a further $20 to spend at a participating winery or in the café at the Udder Delights Cheese Cellar.
